About the Designer Detective

Hi!  I’m Shay Geyer, a.k.a the Designer Detective.  This blog was designed especially for you!  We all lead busy lives juggling careers, family & the never ending but wonderful task of creating a harmonious home.  I want this blog to be a sanctuary or getaway for you to submerse yourself in ways to enrich your lives and beautify your home!  As the Designer Detective, I do all of the work for you!  I’m on the case to solve Design Crimes, provide practical solutions to Design Dilemmas, to tell you about the hippest design Events, contests, specials & sales!  The blog will also feature “Shay’s Favs” where I’ll post all of the wonderful decor I find while working on design projects from upholstery to draperies & accessories ~ all the really cool stuff you need to create a beautiful home!  I’ll also feature what I’ll be talking about in my upcoming design segments on Good Morning Texas. I’m here to help!  Comments are welcomed, feedback is wonderful & questions are encouraged!  Drop a line ANYTIME & join in the discussions!

A little about me:

I’ve been surrounded by design my entire life.  My mom is one of the most amazing and talented designers I’ve ever known whose client list spans the globe.  She is truly an inspiration and my mentor.  I remember playing with all of the fabric samples she would bring home & pretending to decorate my doll houses & baby cribs as a child.  I just love the creativity in a child.  My 5 year old daughter does the exact same thing now!  LOL!  It’s funny what kids pick up on!   After graduating from college, I moved back to Texas to pursue a career in the family business ~ IBB Design Furniture Showroom.  We have an incredibly talented staff of 15 designers in Dallas Fort Worth and  2 in Houston.  I’m like a kid in a candy store working at IBB.  Every day we get all sorts of cool new stuff in & I wish I could take it all home ;-)

Working professionally in this industry since 2001, I’ve developed an extreme passion for helping families live beautifully.  I find my inspirations all around me ~ in nature, on the internet, in words, in pictures, in colors, in books, in relationships ~ basically everywhere!  Design is subjective & you should always let your imagination run wild.  While there are guidelines & basic rules to follow, at the end of the day your home should reflect your personal taste & style.  I hope the ideas, advice & discussions you’re exposed to by the Designer Detective will inspire you to live beautifully.

Everyone should feel like they’re livin the good life!

I think the blog is is a great idea. The “Designer Detective” sounds like it will be a hit with all of those who log on. Good luck with this week’s cooking segment…you know that I’ll be watching.

    Hi Shay,

I saw your segment for the first time this morning on GMT. You were very informative about decorating style. I will definitely keep up with your website and blog.

I design and sew throw pillows. I am currently selling on a couple online marketplaces and want to know if you know of any other avenues I can explore to get more exposure. I get many, many comments and compliments, but little sales.

    Thank you for your time.

    hi,
I’ve seen several Huntington/sanders/highland models and absolutely loved the decor.
I do not find much Contemporary furniture in your showroom, Is there a Place in Dallas where I can find nice modern furniture (like Jensen-Lewis ,NY).
    Thanks!

    Hi Shay,

I just saw your segement on GMT for the first time. I think this site is a great idea. I have a quick question on a design dilemma. My husband and I built our home a couple of years ago. We have the standard builders grade bathroom. We have updated the tile in the shower and floor, but we are stuck on the oak cabinets which are plain and traditional. I would like to paint them a chocolate color but I am scared! Any advise?

    Hi Shay

I love your segment on GMT! I wish I could afford to have you come to my house and give me some updating suggesions. My house was built in 1982, typical 82 floor plan, galley kitchen, huge formal living area. I updated the kitchen with granite and 18″ ceramic tile floors, but still need to decide what to do about the dated cabinets. There is also a 10′ built in cabinet in the large formal living area. 2 & 1/2 baths, every cabinet in the entire house is the same. The living area and hallway to the bedrooms have wood floors, the family room & formal dining have wood/laminate floors the same color as the lv area wood. I need to replace the flooring in all 3 bedrooms, should I stick with carpet, or wood? If I do wood, do I have to match the wood floors in the hallway that meet the bedrooms? I also have the oak picture frame paneling in my formal living area, should I remove it and texture/paint the walls or paint the paneling maybe with the picture frame being an accent color? If I were to do anything to my cabinets, should I make them all match like they do now? All help & suggestions are greatly appreciated !!!Thanks!
